LISBON
Henry the Navigator made Lisbon the 15th-century mistress of the
seas. On the included tour see his monument, the Belem Tower, the
Moorish Citadel, and impressive Black Horse Square. Spend the
afternoon in the Alfama's tile-decorated streets, or take an
optional excursion to coastal Estoril and Cascais. (B)

LISBON-SEVILLE, SPAIN
Start the morning by visiting a typical wine bodega in Azeitao to
sample Portuguese wine. From the plains of the Alentejo with its
woodlands of cork and eucalyptus trees, southwards all the way to
the blinding light of Andalusia. Admire its neat white-painted
villages and its sun-drenched plantations of olives, figs, and
almonds, while traveling by way of Beja into magnificent Seville. (B,D)

SEVILLE
At leisure in one of Spain's most colorful cities. Your included tour
this morning features the largest cathedral in Spain, the great
Giralda Tower with its intricate Moorish decoration, and the
12th-century Alcazar, which was once a Moorish Royal Palace. (B)

SEVILLE-CORDOBA-GRANADA
Drive northwards towards Carmona, an old-world country town dominated
by an ancient Alcazar, to Cordoba with time for some included
sightseeing. This is Spain's most Moorish city with its great Mosque,
which is rightly known as one of Islam's greatest pieces of
architecture outside the Arab world. Later into the very heart of
Andalusia dotted with dazzling white sun-drenched villages to Granada
in the shadow of the Sierra Nevada. (B,D)

MORNING IN GRANADA-AFTERNOON TO MADRID
Take advantage of the optional sightseeing tour of the Alhambra, a
summer palace built by the Moorish kings. You'll treasure the memory
of its architectural beauty, dazzling ceilings, and magnificent
gardens. This afternoon enjoy a journey through the orange and olive
groves before reaching the vineyards of the Valdepenas region then
across the Tagus River to Madrid for overnight. (B)

MADRID
Not only is it the capital of Spain, but because it is situated 2,180
feet above sea level, the Spaniards rightly say it's the nearest
thing to heaven. You've only a day here and it's certainly worth
making the most of it. Enjoy the main highlights on the included

MADRID-SEGOVIA-BURGOS
Start the day with an included visit to the Valley of the Fallen and
Escorial an impressive monastery built on the southern slopes of the
Sierra de Guadarrama. Next to Segovia a most Castillian city perched
high on a rock above the Rivers Erosma and Clamores for a walking
orientation. Its Alcazar, Cathedral and Roman aqueduct are sights
worth seeing. Northwest to Burgos, the cradle of Castille. (B,D)

BURGOS-PAMPLONA
Time this morning to admire the great limestone cathedral of Santa
Maria where the legendary El Cid is buried. Motor eastwards through
the Rioja wine country to Pamplona, the city of the running bulls.

PAMPLONA-BORDEAUX, FRANCE-TOURS
A relatively short drive to the Spanish-French border and then a
comfortable drive across the Landes region to Bordeaux on the banks
of the Garonne. Take advantage of the included sightseeing tour to
find out more about this grand and splendid city. Journey through
villages famous the world over for their vineyards. Be reminded of
the deeds of the Black Prince as you approach Poitiers before the
final drive to the banks of the Loire to Tours for overnight. (B,D)

TOURS-CHÂTEAUX COUNTRY-ORLEANS-PARIS
Take the scenic route along the shores of the River Loire, dotted with
some of France's most famous castles, such as Amboise, Chaumont, and
Blois. There'll be time for an optional visit to one of the castles.
Next to Orleans of Joan of Arc fame. Arrive in Paris in time to enjoy

One full day to explore the city that's known throughout the world for
its fashions, art and museums, delicious food, and joie de vivre.
Included sightseeing with a local expert starts with an inside visit
to Notre Dame Cathedral. Then many of the best-known Parisian sights:
La Sorbonne, Arc de Triomphe, Opéra, Madeleine, the Eiffel Tower, the
Pyramide near the Louvre, the Invalides, and Champs Elysées...
Optional excursions are also available to the palace and gardens of
Versailles, and to celebrate the success of your tour, a French
farewell dinner might be just the ticket. (B)
