Route 1: Extremadura: Mosaic of Cultures
1st Day - Monday
Madrid - Talavera de la Reina - Lagartera - Oropesa - Guadalupe
Departure from Madrid. Stop in Talavera to visit a traditional ceramic workshop. Continue to Lagartera to visit one of the local factories of the traditional embroideries and costumes. On to Oropesa for lunch in the castle Parador. Continue to Guadalupe for a guided tour of the Monastery. Dinner and accommodations in the charming Parador.
2nd Day - Tuesday
Guadalupe - Trujillo - Merida
Buffet breakfast. Enjoy a drive through, typical landscapes of the region. Tour the quaint town of Trujillo (home of Pizarro), and enjoy lunch in the atmospheric Parador. Continue to Merida for a tour of the impressive Roman ruins, museum and the amphitheater. Dinner and lodging in the delightful Parador, a former convent.
3rd Day - Wednesday
Merida - Alcuescar - Montanchez - Caceres
Buffet breakfast. Departure to Alcuescar to visit the Visigothic Basilica of Santa Maria del Trampal, then to Montanchez to visit the castle and admire the locally made mantillas. Continue to Caceres for lunch and a tour of the beautifully preserved old city. Afternoon free. Dinner and accommodations at the restored palace Parador in the heart of the old quarter.
4th Day - Thursday
Caceres - Coria - Galisteo - Plasencia
Buffet breakfast. Departure to Coria to visit the cathedral and old quarter. Continue to Galisteo for a tour of the walled town and to enjoy lunch in a typical restaurant. Continue to Plasencia for a city tour including the cathedral and the Museum of Textiles. Dinner and lodging in the impressive ancient Parador.
5th Day - Friday
Plasencia - Garganta La Olla - Cuacos de Yuste - Valverde de la Vera - Madrid
Buffet breakfast. Departure to Garganta La Olla for a tour of this typical mountain foothill country. Continue to Cuacos de Yuste for a tour of the monastery where Emperor Charles V spent his last days. Enjoy lunch in the quaint Parador of Jarandilla, a former country palace. Visit Valverde de la Verde, and a typical local pimiento factory. Continue to Madrid and end of services.
