Parador De Alcala De Henares

The restaurant is located in the Colegio Menor de San Jerónimo, founded in
1510 by Cardinal Cisneros. The University brought prestige to the town in
which, among others, lived Cervantes, Lope de Vega and Quevedo. Important
monuments are witness to the historical value of Alcalá, whose closeness to
Madrid converts it into a town which is a must to visit. The most
representative element of the restaurant is the "Trilingual Courtyard", called
like this because three languages were taught in it: Latin, Greek and Hebrew.
It was built in the 16th century in Mudejar and Renaissance style, and has a
garden, central well, columns and arcades. The decoration of the restaurant
and of the living rooms is based on wooden beams and on traditional period
furniture. Its Castilian cooking offers excellent garlic soups, stews,
succulent roasts and an almond and puff-pastry dessert from Alcalá, "costrada".

The charismatic history of Alcalá de Henares gives refuge to the former
Colegio de San Jerónimo. The closeness of monumental treasures such as the
Chapel of San Ildefonso, the Archbishop's Palace and the Baroque Bernardas
convent, stretches out to the capital of Spain. Madrid is just 26 km away
on the E-90, in the direction of nearby Guadalajara or Zaragoza. |
